Huff Signs Three-Year Deal With Greek Club
Wednesday, September 17, 2008
Shawn Huff, who closed out his Crusader career at the end of the 2007-08 season, has signed a three-year contract to play professional basketball with the Greek club Maroussi Athens BC.
“We are very pleased that Shawn has signed a professional contract,” said Crusader head coach Homer Drew. “Maroussi is one of the top Greek clubs, and for them to offer him a three-year deal shows the confidence they have in Shawn’s playing ability.”
Huff helped lead Valpo to the quarterfinal round of the inaugural College Basketball Invitational as a senior, and in the process joined a select club of Crusader players to break the 1,000 point milestone, ending his career with 1,032 points. He finished his four years with 170 3-pointers, sixth-most in Valpo history, and connected on 43.5% of his 3-point attempts, tied for second-best all-time in the Crusader annals.
Maroussi competes in the A1 Ethniki, also known as the Greek League, which is the highest professional basketball league in Greece. It finished fourth in the Greek League playoffs last year, securing the club a spot in the 2009 Eurocup, the second-tier transnational pro basketball competition in Europe.
“Playing at Valpo for Coach Drew helped prepare me for the next level by strengthening my work ethic and desire to become a better player,” said Huff. “My time at Valpo improved my mental toughness and taught me that you have to be ready to play on game day no matter what, because you only get a handful of chances to play every year.”
“Shawn has worked very hard over his four years here to improve his game, and we are excited that he will now get the chance to showcase that at the next level,” said Drew. “We are looking forward to following his career for years to come.”
