Peters Earns All-District Accolade; Named League Scholar-Athlete of Season

Valparaiso University senior forward Alec Peters (Washington, Ill./Washington) picked up a pair of honors on Wednesday to add to his extensive list of awards from his final season, as he was named an NABC First Team All-District 12 honoree and also selected as the Horizon League’s Male Scholar-Athlete of the Winter Season.

Peters was named to the NABC’s First Team All-District squad for a third straight season following his stellar senior campaign. The senior was named Horizon League Player of the Year after leading the team to another Horizon League regular season championship, averaging 23 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. Peters, who ranks among the top-10 in the nation in scoring and top-20 in rebounding, was a consistent force throughout the season, scoring in double figures in all 29 of his games, including 20 or more points on 23 occasions while registering 16 double-doubles.

Meanwhile, Peters also picked up another award honoring him for his work in the classroom, as well as on the court, in earning the Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Season accolade. Peters had previously been named a CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American – one of just five men’s basketball players to earn the honor.

Peters earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management last year and began his post-graduate work this year in Valpo’s sports administration master’s program, where he currently holds a 3.53 grade point average. A three-time CoSIDA First Team Academic All-District recipient, he also has been a member of the Academic All-Horizon League squad each of the last three years.
