Valparaiso Competes at Stanford Invitational

Valparaiso sent seven runners to the Stanford Invitational Saturday evening and came home with a seventh place team finish.

Jim Turchyn (Batesville, Ind./Batesville H.S.) paced the Crusaders, covering the four kilometers in 12:57 and finishing in 25th place. Following Turchyn for Valpo was Adriano Schultz (Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights H.S.), who finished 36th with a time of 13:09.

David Wheeler (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles East H.S.) posted a time of 13:22, good for a 44th place finish. Rich Krupar (Elyria, Ohio/Midview H.S.) followed close behind Wheeler, finishing in 46th place with a time of 13:25, while Mike Brouch (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) rounded out the scoring for the Brown and Gold with a 48th place finish, running the course in 13:29.

Russell Brown paced all runners, covering the course in 11:59 and leading the host Cardinal to the team championship. The Crusaders posted a team score of 152 points, good for seventh out of 11 participating teams.

Valparaiso returns to action this weekend, as the squad will split to compete in two meets. Some Crusaders will head to the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday while other runners will head to Chicago to take part in the Loyola Lakefront Invitational on Saturday.
