VanArragon Named MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Leads Three Beacons on MVC Scholar-Athlete Teams

For the fourth consecutive season, Valparaiso University men’s golf fifth-year senior Caleb VanArragon (Blaine, Minn. / Blaine) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

VanArragon was joined on the MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team by junior Anthony Delisanti (Sanborn, N.Y. / Niagara Wheatfield), while senior Mason Bonn (Sherwood, Ore. / Sherwood) was named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Second Team.

A 2022-23 College Sports Communicators Academic All-American, VanArragon is a four-time MVC Elite 17 Award recipient, an honor that is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average among top finishers at the MVC Championship. This marks his fourth straight MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, which comes as no surprise as the only thing better than VanArragon’s golf over the last five years has been his performance in the classroom, where he owns a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average toward his master’s in analytics and modeling after finishing his undergraduate degree with a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA in biology and statistics.

The runner-up at the MVC Championship, VanArragon earned an at-large berth to this week’s NCAA West Lafayette Regional and owns a scoring average of 69.35 this season. He was also named MVC Golfer of the Year this season.

A two-time NCAA Regional qualifier and two-time Missouri Valley Conference individual champion, Delisanti owns a scoring average of 70.86 this season. He earned MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team honors for the second straight year. Delisanti holds a 3.91 GPA in sport management and garnered First Team All-MVC honors for the third straight season.

After missing the fall season with an injury, Bonn returned for the spring and owned a 75.63 scoring average. He had a season-low 69 (-3) in the second round of the Dorado Beach Collegiate. He was part of the lineup for six of the team’s seven spring tournaments including the MVC Championship. Bonn is a 3.63 GPA student in mechanical engineering.
