Valpo Falls at Southwest Missouri State 5-1

Four unanswered goals helped to lead Southwest Missouri State to a 5-1 victory over Valparaiso on Sunday afternoon in Springfield, Mo.

The Bears struck first in the 26th minute as Doug Lascody tallied his first of two goals on the afternoon. Valpo's Jon Brighton (Warner Robins, Ga./Houston County H.S.) knotted the match at one at the 38:47 mark after pulling goalkeeper Nathan Platz out of the box and scoring into an open goal. D.J. Catrow (Springfield, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) drew the assist.

SMS took the lead for good just four minutes later as Michael Rennel scored just before halftime. Ryan Anderson added a goal for the Bears at the 60:%1 mark and Jon Watson added another at the 63:23 mark. Lascody added his second of the match on a penalty kick with 9:09 remaining.

Southwest Missouri State (7-0-1) outshot Valpo 24-7 for the match and held a 10-4 advantage on net. Jeff Oleck (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral H.S.) made five stops in goal for the Brown and Gold. Platz made three saves for the Bears.

Valparaiso (2-4-2) will continue its road trip next Saturday with a 7 p.m. Mid-Continent Conference match against Centenary in Shreveport, La.
