Monday, October 31, 2005
Senior goalkeeper Jeff Oleck (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral H.S.) has been named the Mid-Continent Conference Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Crusaders clinch a berth in the Mid-Con Tournament with a 1-0 shutout of IUPUI.

Oleck turned aside six Jaguar shots Friday night, posting his fourth shutout in six matches against Mid-Con opponents. The shutout was also the fifth of the season for the senior, setting a Division I school record. Oleck already holds Crusader records in career shutouts and career goals against average, and is second in career saves. This is fifth Defensive Player of the Week award of Oleck's career and second of the season.

Valpo closes the regular season Sunday when they take on Michigan State at Eastgate Field. That match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. and Oleck and the rest of the Crusader seniors will be honored in a pregame ceremony. Live coverage on 95.1 FM, WVUR, and online at www.valpo.edu/athletics begins at 12:40 p.m.
