Crusaders Fall to Dayton in Exhibition Play

Valparaiso concluded its 2005 exhibition season on Saturday evening, dropping a 3-0 decision at Dayton.

Dayton started the match quickly, putting the first goal on the board in the sixth minute of play. Nate Darr headed in a pass from Antti Arst to give the Flyers the lead.

Lubomir Bogdanov found the back of the net on a penalty kick in the 27th minute to give Dayton a 2-0 lead. Richie Campbell headed home a cross from Caleb Lindemann in the 81st minute to conclude the scoring.

The Crusaders were unable to score on any of their 11 shots, as two Dayton keepers made a combined total of five saves in the shutout effort.

Dayton finished with 17 total shots, including seven on goal. Jeff Oleck (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral H.S.) went the distance in goal for the Brown and Gold, making four saves.

Valparaiso begins the regular season September 2 against Buffalo as part of the Bulls Classic. Kick-off against the host Bulls is slated for 6 p.m. CDT.
