Valparaiso University's Nic Kooyers (Holland, Mich./Holland H.S.) has been named the Mid-Continent Conference Athlete of the Week after notching a perfect 3-0 singles mark and a 2-1 record at doubles last week on the Crusaders' spring trip in Florida.

The junior defeated opponents from Fairleigh Dickinson and Binghamton in straight sets then posted a thrilling victory in a third set tie-break against Flagler as the Brown and Gold earned the win.

In doubles action, Kooyers teamed with Mike Shideler (Valparaiso, Ind./Munster H.S.) for a pair of doubles victories at the top spot in the lineup.

Kooyers has now won four straight matches in singles play and leads the team with 11 victories. This is the second time this year he has earned the honor, also garnering the award during the fall on October 4. For his career, Kooyers has been named Mid-Con Athlete of the Week seven times.
