Men’s Tennis Wraps Up Spring Trip with Defeat at No. 12 Texas A&M

The Valparaiso University men’s tennis team incurred a 6-1 setback in its final match prior to the start of Summit League action on Sunday in College Station, Texas. The match was Valpo’s second against a nationally-ranked opponent in a four-match span, wrapping up the team’s spring break journey to The Lone Star State.

How It Happened

  • Brian Pecyna (Glen Ellyn, Ill. / Homeschooled) picked up a victory at No. 2 because Barnaby Smith, ranked 111th nationally, was forced to retire.
  • Texas A&M (12-3) won in straight sets on four courts and by retirement on one.
  • Oscar Mendoza (Guayaquil, Ecuador / Interamerican Academy) and Andrej Kalenic (Belgrade, Serbia / Kreativno Pero) put up a good battle at No. 3 doubles as their match was 4-4 when the doubles point was clinched.
