Steve Bartholomew (Valparaiso, Ind./Morgan Township) registered a runner-up finish in the discus throw, one of three top-ten finishes by the Valparaiso men’s track and field squad Saturday as it finished competing at the Hillsdale Gina Relays in Hillsdale, Mich.
The senior recorded a toss of 166’10” for his second-place showing, less than two feet behind the event champion. It was Bartholomew’s second top-five placement of the meet, coming on the heels of his fifth-place effort in the hammer throw Friday.
Tom Heun (Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) joined Bartholomew with a top-five finish Saturday, coming home fourth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.52 seconds. Freshman Jarrett Mickens (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) recorded the fourth-longest triple jump in Valpo history with a leap of 44’8” Saturday, good for seventh place, while Steve Schubert (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy) placed 11th in the same event with a mark of 41’7”.
Valparaiso returns to the track next Saturday, May 3 at the Butler Twilight Meet in Indianapolis, Ind. The multi-event portions of the Horizon League Championships will be held simultaneously with the meet.
