Valparaiso Defeats IUPUI 128-77 in Home Opener

Valparaiso's women's swimming and diving team opened its home season on Friday evening with a convincing 128-77 victory over IUPUI at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.

Allison Clark (Shorewood, Wis./Shorewood H.S.) won a pair of individual events along with a relay victory on the night. She took top honors in the 1000 freestyle in a time of 11:14.14, 11 seconds in front of her nearest competitor. The freshman also won the 100 breaststroke with a mark of 1:11.54 and added a first in the 200 freestyle relay.

The Crusaders opened the meet with a victory in the 400 medley relay as Lauren Bambach (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman H.S.), Ashley Seale (Maryville, Tenn./Maryville H.S.), Katie Urbas (Ballwin, Mo./Marquette H.S.), and Amanda Gregory (Carmel, Ind./Carmel H.S.) touched the wall in a time of 1:55.90.

Britt Nelson (Cortland, N.Y./Homer H.S.) posted a nine second victory in the 500 free with a time of 5:25.24, while Seale won the 100 butterfly in 1:00.98 for the Brown and Gold. Schneider also won the 200 individual medley in over four seconds with a time of 2:17.50.

Danielle Trombatore (Redding, Calif./Shasta H.S.), Clark, Nelson, and Schneider capped off the meet with a 1:43.52 mark in the 200 free relay to post a victory in that event as well.

Valpo (1-0) will return to the pool on Saturday as the Crusaders travel to West Lafayette, Ind. for the Indiana Intercollegiates. The meet begins at noon on the campus of Purdue University.
