Molly Keifer (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) picked up her team-leading fifth singles victory on Wednesday afternoon, but it was not enough for the Crusaders as Valparaiso dropped a 6-1 decision to IPFW at the Valparaiso University Tennis Complex.
The junior, playing at third singles, defeated Ashley Coulson 7-5, 6-3. Keifer is now 4-5 playing at the third spot in the lineup on the year and has five wins overall.
IPFW (15-8) jumped in front by sweeping the doubles point. Coulson and Stacy Lish defeated Keifer and Jenny Schwartz (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora H.S.) 8-4 at number one doubles while Sachi Janek and Amy Recht downed Kim Sajevic (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury H.S.) and Julie Wingstrom (Dallas Lake, Ind./Westview H.S.) 8-6 at the second spot. Hanna Hager and Alexa Rang topped Lindsey Gustafson (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) and Laura Lawson (Thorntown, Ind./Western Boone H.S.) 8-4 as well.
In singles, Janek defeated Schwartz 6-4, 6-0 at the second spot while Hager posted a 6-2, 6-2 win at fifth singles against Wingstrom. Lish secured the victory with her 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Gustafson before Molly Carpenter defeated Christine Antrobus (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead H.S.) 7-5, 6-2. Recht downed Sajevic 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 at the top of the lineup before Keifer posted her win to prevent the shutout.
