No Surprise Here: VanArragon Again Named MVC Golfer of the Week

After winning medalist honors at this week’s Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, Valparaiso University fifth-year senior Caleb VanArragon (Blaine, Minn. / Blaine) was named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week on Thursday.

VanArragon topped an 80-player field in the event, which was hosted by South Alabama at RTJ Magnolia Grove in a windy Mobile, Ala. He captured medalist honors for the fifth time in his collegiate career and the third time this season.

VanArragon finished with a 54-hole score of 205 (-8; 69-68-68), edging Texas State’s Rocco Repitto Taylor (206) for the top spot. The Valpo veteran won the event in dramatic fashion, sinking a 12-foot birdie on the final hole of the tournament en route to the one-stroke win. This was his 15th career top-2 finish, 23rd career top-5 finish and 33rd career top-10 finish.

This marked the fourth time in seven tournaments this season that VanArragon has been either the individual medalist or runner-up. Valpo has achieved MVC Golfer of the Week status following each of its first three spring tournaments as junior Anthony Delisanti (Sanborn, N.Y. / Niagara Wheatfield) won the award on Feb. 29 and VanArragon has now won the award after back-to-back events.

VanArragon has been named the MVC Golfer of the Week a league-record 17 times in his collegiate career. Valpo has boasted the MVC Golfer of the Week after six of the team’s seven tournaments this season, with Delisanti winning twice and this marking VanArragon’s fourth honor in 2023-24.

The Beacons will be back on the course on Monday, April 1 to begin the Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate at True Blue GC in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
