Melanie Wilson (Saint Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) recorded two top-ten finishes Saturday to lead the Valparaiso women’s track and field team as it finished competition at the Hillsdale Gina Relays in Hillsdale, Mich.
With her two top-ten placements Saturday, Wilson finished the meet with three finishes among the top-ten. The senior placed fifth in the 100m hurdles Saturday with a time of 14.69 seconds, and also registered an eighth-place showing in the triple jump with a leap of 37’0 ¼”.
Three other Crusader athletes registered top-20 finishes on the final day of competition. Patricia Kloth (Medford, Wis./Medford Area) moved into third place on Valpo’s all-time chart in the 400m dash, crossing the line in 59.36 seconds for a 13th-place finish. Emilie Marsicek (Spalding, Mich./Carney-Nadeau) recorded a mark of 109’3” in the javelin throw to finish 15th, while Ini Umana (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) tallied a 17th-place showing in the discus throw with a toss of 126’4”.
Valparaiso returns to the track next Saturday, May 3 at the Butler Twilight Meet in Indianapolis, Ind. The multi-event portions of the Horizon League Championships will be held simultaneously with the meet.
