Mullings Garners All-MVC Honors to Highlight Day 1 at Indoor Championships
Micah Mullings was the MVC Indoor runner-up in the men's long jump on Sunday.

Sophomore Micah Mullings (Minesing, Ontario, Canada / Barrie North) became a two-time all-conference honoree on Sunday as he achieved all-league status in the long jump at the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships, cohosted by the Beacons at Gately Park in Chicago.

How It Happened

  • Mullings achieved a podium finish in the men’s long jump, posting a mark of 7.39 meters (24 feet, 3 inches) to earn eight points for his team. He was second to Indiana State’s Shomari Rogers-Walton (7.67m, 25-2). Mullings previously obtained all-conference accolades with a top-3 finish in the triple jump at last year’s outdoor championships.
  • In the women's pentathlon, Katie Koryczan (Crown Point, Ind. / Crown Point (Purdue Northwest) established a program record with a score of 2,583, edging Rhena Kiger's score in that event from last season of 2,577 for the best in program history. 
  • In the men’s 5,000, Simeon Ehm (Castle Rock, Colo. / Heritage) posted a personal-record time of 14:27.84 to garner a top-10 finish. He checked in at eighth in the event and continued to rank second in program history in that event behind only teammate Evan Walda.
  • In the mid-distance, Noah Meacham (Tulsa, Okla. / Broken Arrow) was 13th of 23 in his heat of the 800 at 1:55.47.
  • In the women’s throws, Tori Gerhardt (Westville, Ind. / Chesterton) delivered a top-10 finish with a mark of 15.76m to lead the Beacons. She placed eighth overall.
  • Other Valpo PRs on Day 1 of the Championships included AJ Walsh (Lombard, Ill. / IC Catholic Prep) in the long jump at 6.21m, Josh Leathers (Streamwood, Ill. / Streamwood) in the weight throw at 14.15m (46-5.25), Vivian Rahmel (Springfield, Ill. / Sacred-Heart Griffin) in the 5,000 at 18:36.36, Juliana Ferrara (Fox River Grove, Ill. / Cary-Grove) and Marion Isaac (Evergreen Park, Ill. / Evergreen Park) in the 200 at 26.04 and 27.90, respectively, Tim Whitelaw (Park Ridge, Ill. / Maine South) in the 200 at 22.55 and Ferrara in the 400 at 1:00.82
