Senior Day Stunner as Softball Rallies for Walk-Off Win Over UNI

It was as if the script had already been written prior to the first pitch on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at the Valpo Softball Complex. After all, how else would you explain a trio of the Beacons’ seniors — celebrating their Senior Day — being key components of a seventh-inning rally which resulted in Valpo erasing the entirety of a four-run deficit? The comeback was completed in walk-off fashion as senior Regi Hecker (Lee’s Summit, Mo./Blue Springs South) delivered an RBI single, sending classmate Alexis Johnson (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) across the plate with the decisive run as the Beacons took down second-place UNI by a 5-4 final.

Softball Drops Series Opener to UNI

The Valpo softball team opened the final weekend of regular season play at the Valpo Softball Complex on Friday afternoon, falling to UNI by a 5-0 final despite limiting one of the MVC’s top offenses to just five hits.

The Valpo softball team closed out its Missouri Valley Conference series with UIC Tuesday afternoon in Chicago, falling 2-0 to the host Flames.

Senior Day On Tap as Softball Hits Final Week of Regular Season

The regular season closes out this week for Valpo softball with a quartet of games. The Beacons will complete their series against UIC with a Tuesday evening game in Chicago before returning home to the Valpo Softball Complex for a three-game weekend series versus UNI. Saturday's game will serve as the program's Senior Day, with the Beacons' five seniors being honored prior to the game.

Softball Drops Doubleheader to Murray State

The Valpo softball team kicked off the next-to-last weekend of regular season play with a doubleheader against visiting Murray State at the Valpo Softball Complex Saturday, falling to the Racers by final scores of 5-0 and 8-2. Freshman Natalie Bush (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian) continued her recent hot streak at the plate with a trio of extra-base hits over the two games.

The Valpo softball team played its final nonconference games of the regular season Wednesday afternoon at the Valpo Softball Complex, falling to visiting Northern Illinois by final scores of 5-2 and 8-0.

Due to rain in the forecast throughout the afternoon, the Valpo softball doubleheader versus Northern Illinois Tuesday afternoon has been postponed. The teams will attempt to play the twinbill on Wednesday afternoon at the Valpo Softball Complex, with game one starting at 1 p.m.

The penultimate week of regular season action brings five home games for the Valpo softball team. The Beacons step away from Valley action for the final time as they take on Northern Illinois in a Tuesday doubleheader before welcoming Murray State to campus for the first time for an MVC series this weekend.
