Valparaiso wrapped up play on Tuesday morning at the Green Bay Lady Phoenix Fall Classic shooting a second round score of 404 to finish in fifth place overall with a two-day total of 794 in Green Bay, Wis.
Loyola (Chicago) won the tournament shooting 645 for two rounds over the 5,950-yard, par-73 Green Bay Country Club.
“I was a little disappointed today,” head coach Mike Higdon said. “I really thought we would come out and lower yesterday’s total. It was cold today but weather conditions were better.”
Annie Nolan (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso H.S.) led the way for the second straight day, carding a 91 to finish the 36-hole event at 178, placing 21st overall. The tournament total represented her best score for the fall season.
Jessica O’Brien (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) had the second best round of the day for the Crusaders on Tuesday, shooting a 98 to finish at 200. Kathleen Cooper (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) was second overall for the Brown and Gold, shooting 101 for the day to finish at 192.
“We are an extremely young team and as long as we are learning something each time we go out it is a positive,” added Higdon. “We need to buckle down and try to play better next week when we conclude the fall season.”
Valpo will head to Kettering, Ohio next Monday and Tuesday for the 36-hole Dayton Fall Invitational.
