Valpo Women’s Golf Earns Victory Over Green Bay
Sibil Gill finished in second place this weekend.

The Valparaiso University women’s golf team picked up a dual match victory at The Course at Aberdeen this weekend, closing out a 21-stroke win over Horizon League opponent Green Bay on Saturday.

The Crusaders once again were paced by senior Sibil Gill (Kokomo, Ind./Western), who posted a third-round score of 76 – Valpo’s best round of the tournament. Gill finished with a 54-hole score of 237 to earn second place, six strokes back of individual champion Sami Grunder of Green Bay.

Finishing third in the individual standings was junior Angie Kim (Schaumburg, Ill./Fremd), who posted her second straight round of 79 during the final round, putting her at 243 to end the weekend.

Freshman Kylie Shoemake (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) and sophomore Katie Willenbrink (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn) shot matching final rounds on Saturday, as each carded an 84. Shoemake placed fourth overall with a 251 for the 54 holes, while Willenbrink finished in fifth place at 255.

Junior Sydney Shrum (Cloverdale, Ind./Cloverdale) was only two shots behind Shoemake, finishing with a 257 after shooting a final-18 score of 87. Rounding out the Crusader six was freshman Madison McCreary (Batesville, Ind./Batesville) with a 274 after recording an 86 on Saturday.

As a team, the Crusaders posted their best round of the tournament Saturday in the play-six, count-four format, recording a round of 323. Valpo closed the tournament at 982 over 54 holes, besting Green Bay by 21 strokes.

Next up for the Valparaiso women will be the Horizon League Championships, starting next Friday in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
