The Valparaiso University women’s tennis team continued Missouri Valley Conference play on Saturday with a 5-2 defeat at defending MVC regular season champion Drake. This marked the first of back-to-back matches in the state of Iowa this weekend.
How It Happened
- Valpo won the No. 3 doubles match by forfeit, but Drake (8-13, 2-1) was victorious on the other two doubles courts.
- Valpo was awarded forfeit victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, so the visitors held a 2-1 lead in the team scoring at the start of singles play.
- Dao Sysouvanh (Sun Prairie, Wis. / Sun Prairie) played a close first set with Daria Walczak at No. 3, but eventually fell 6-4, 6-0. When that match reached its conclusion, the Bulldogs nailed down the team victory as they had already won in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 2.
- Isabella Schoolcraft (Bargersville, Ind. / Center Grove) played Sophia Haleas to two close sets at No. 4 singles, but Haleas took both 6-3, 6-4 to round out the match.
