Czerwonka Sisters Extend Doubles Winning Streak

Sisters Claire and Olivia Czerwonka (Kenosha, Wis. / Saint Joseph Catholic Academy) earned a victory at No. 1 doubles in Saturday’s match at Butler, providing a highlight in the Valparaiso University tennis team’s 7-0 setback to the host Bulldogs. The Beacons were close in several singles matches, but Butler came away victorious on all six singles courts in the instate matchup.

How It Happened

  • Claire and Olivia downed Natalie Boesing and Delaney Schurhamer 6-1 in a one-sided match at No. 1 doubles. Boesing was an All-Big East First Team selection as a freshman last year. The win marked Olivia’s 39th career doubles success, while Claire picked up her 66th. Furthermore, the sisters have won 11 consecutive doubles matches and are 9-0 in dual matches this season.
  • Olivia beat Boesing 6-4 in the opening set of the No. 1 singles match, but Boesing won 6-1 in Set 2 to force a third set. In a tight third set, Boesing came out on top 7-5 to solidify the win.
  • At No. 6 singles, Isabella Schoolcraft (Bargersville, Ind. / Center Grove) dropped the first set on a long tiebreak 7-6(9), and went on to drop the match in straight sets. Another close call came at No. 3 singles, where both sets went to tiebreaks. Amanda Tabanera (Valencia, Calif. / Valencia) dropped the match 7-6(4), 7-6(5).
  • The theme of close sets was also evident at No. 4 singles, where Demi Jhaveri (Westlake, Ohio / Westlake) lost a pair of close ones, 7-5, 7-6.
