The program's highest five-game baker match score in nearly five years highlighted the opening day of action Friday for the #19 Valpo bowling team at the MOTIV Ladyjack Classic in Kenosha, Wis.
Â
How It Happened
- The Beacons opened the tournament against #22 UW-Whitewater, falling to the Warhawks 1021-823.
- Valpo dropped decisions to #3 Youngstown State (1127-863) and #9 Maryville (1027-873) in the next two match slots.
- The Beacons broke out in a big way in their fourth match of the day as they defeated #21 McKendree 1058-997.
- The 1058 marked Valpo's highest score in a five-game baker match since Jan. 10, 2020. It also is tied for the eighth-best score in a five-game baker match in program history, ironically matching an effort against McKendree from Jan. 12, 2018.
- With an odd number of teams in the tournament field, Valpo closed the day with a bye, posting a score of 938.
- The Beacons finished the day in 14th place out of the 17 competing teams, with a total pinfall of 4,555.
