The bottom of the Valparaiso University tennis lineup enjoyed victories as Elizabeth Sobieski (Muskego, Wis. / Muskego) and Lillian Kelly (Fullerton, Calif. / Fullerton Union) were both in the win column on Saturday afternoon, but visiting Belmont took the match 5-2 at The Courts of Northwest Indiana.
How It Happened
- Kelly was the first singles player off the court, dispatching Belmont’s Aly Getty 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6.
- Sobieski’s win required a comeback, as she battled back from dropping the first set to take the No. 5 match from Hana Sokolovic 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
- Belmont prevailed on the other four singles courts. The tightest of those came at No. 2, where Olivia Czerwonka (Kenosha, Wis. / Saint Joseph Catholic Academy) won the middle set in lopsided fashion 6-1 but dropped tight first and third sets, both by 6-4 scores.
- The Bruins won the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches to take the doubles point.
