Soccer Falls on Road at UNI

The Valpo soccer team hit the road for the first time in MVC play this season Sunday afternoon, dropping a 4-0 decision at UNI.

How It Happened
  • UNI's Lauren Heinsch found the back of the net less than four minutes into the match to put the Panthers on top early.
  • Maddie Eastus doubled the Panthers' lead in the 19th minute, and Olivia Knoepfle scored 10 minutes later to give UNI a 3-0 halftime lead.
  • Eastus scored her second goal of the match in the 48th minute to cap the scoring.
Inside the Match
  • The loss snapped Valpo's four-match unbeaten streak against the Panthers, as the Beacons had been 3-0-1 in the last four meetings before Sunday.
  • Valpo has lost its first three Valley games for the first time since 2019.
  • The Beacons were outshot 23-2 by the Panthers on Sunday. Eight of UNI's efforts were on frame, with redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Kate Sheridan (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) making four saves.
Thoughts From Coach Marovich
"We've had a stretch of games we've come out on the front foot with a really strong start, and we had that in the first couple minutes today, getting a dangerous ball into the six. But then we get caught in a decision in the back a couple minutes later and go down 1-0. Then we're back to where we were early in the year, chasing the game — it's hard to recover when you give up goals early, and it was an old lesson learned again today."
