The Valpo soccer team struck first against visiting UNI on Saturday evening at Brown Field, as
Molly O'Rear (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) found the back of the net in the 20
th minute, but the Panthers struck for the equalizer late in the first half and then the eventual match-winner in the 73
rd minute to emerge 2-1 victors.
Â
How It Happened
- O'Rear put the Beacons on top Saturday inside of 20 minutes. Positioned just outside the top of the box in the center of the park, the senior took a pass from the left flank from Tatum Coleman (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern), turned and fired a left-footed shot inside the right post. UNI goalkeeper Thordis Melsted got hands to the effort, but was unable to keep it out as Valpo took the 1-0 lead.
- A defensive miscue gave UNI's Haylee Braun a 1-v-1 effort with Valpo goalkeeper Kate Sheridan (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) in the 37th minute, and Braun was able to convert to level the match at 1-1, where it stayed at halftime.
- Braun was on the spot for the match-winner in the 73rd minute, making a back-post run and knocking home a pass from Kylie Knief for the decisive goal.

Inside the Match
- O'Rear's goal was her fourth of the year, matching her total from her freshman season. It was the 15th goal involvement of the senior's career (8g, 7a).
- Coleman's assist ties her for team-high honors this year, as it was her third helper.
- UNI held an 11-10 advantage in shots and put seven of its efforts on goal to Valpo's four. Sheridan made five saves in net for the Beacons.
