Playing without the team's No. 2 Singles player due to an injury, the Valparaiso University tennis team dropped Saturday's nonconference finale to instate foe Butler 7-0 at The Courts of Northwest Indiana.
Â
How It Happened
- Due to Valpo playing with five players, Butler won by default at No. 3 Doubles and No. 6 Singles.
- The Valpo tandem of Lillian Kelly (Fullerton, Calif. / Fullerton Union) and Lacey Tanner (Fort Pierce, Fla. / Florida Virtual School) had a 4-1 lead at No. 2 doubles, but the match was halted when Butler clinched the doubles point by prevailing on the top doubles court.
- The tightest singles match came at No. 1, where Moira Silva (Houston, Texas / Houston Tennis Academy) dropped a pair of 7-5 sets to Chase Metcalf. The No. 2 through No. 5 singles matches all went to the Bulldogs in straight sets with Valpo players all playing up a spot due to the absence of the team's usual No. 2 player.
