The Valparaiso University tennis team received a victorious effort from sophomore Lillian Kelly (Fullerton, Calif. / Fullerton Union) and freshman Lacey Tanner (Fort Pierce, Fla. / Florida Virtual School) in doubles play, but fell 7-0 to defending Missouri Valley Conference champion Murray State on Sunday in Murray, Ky. The Racers improved to 10-0 in conference play over the last two seasons.
 
How It Happened

• Tanner and Kelly eked out a victory on a tiebreaker, beating the Murray State tandem of Yuna Kadowaki and Yu Kikawa 7-6(6) in a close breaker. Tanner's doubles win was her seventh of the year.
• Valpo fell at No. 1 doubles and defaulted at No. 3, so the Racers still took the doubles point.
• The Beacons defaulted at No. 6, and Murray State won in straight sets on each of the top four singles courts. Kelly continued her strong play of late at No. 5, where she took the opening set but eventually succumbed to Bruna Melato 4-6, 6-4, (10-2) on a third-set breaker.
