The Valpo soccer team continued MVC play Thursday night on a rainy night on Brown Field, falling to first-place Southern Illinois by a 3-0 final.
Â
How It Happened
- SIU opened the scoring in the 28th minute, as Victoria Hassan gained control of an errant Beacon backpass, got around the Valpo keeper and converted into the open goal.
- Hassan added another goal in the 64th minute off a feed from Nao Katamoto.
- Maya Dixon finished off a give-and-go with Dior Knorr with a shot just under the crossbar in the 77th minute to cap the scoring.
Â
Inside the Match
- SIU outshot Valpo by a 16-8 count. None of the Beacons' shots were on target, the first time since the 2024 season finale at Missouri State they've been held without a shot on goal.
- Salange Bell (Montclair, N.J./Montclair Kimberly Academy [Montclair State]) made four saves in goal for the Beacons.
- Both sides attempted three corner kicks, while Valpo held the slight 51-49 advantage in possession and had more possession in its attacking half than the Salukis did.
- After missing the last two matches of last season and the first 12 this season, Hannah Seiler (Orlando, Fla./East River) made her season debut last time out and saw a more extended run of 34 minutes Thursday evening.
