The Valparaiso University tennis team stretched its winning streak to five on Saturday afternoon, resuming action after spring break by going on the road to beat Chicago State 5-2 at H-F Racquet Club in Chicago. The bottom of the lineup came through in both singles and doubles as Valpo won the second and third doubles matches and the No. 3 through No. 6 singles matches in the nonconference finale.

How It Happened
- The Beacons won the doubles point thanks to victories at No. 2 and No. 3. Senior Moira Silva (Houston, Texas / Westside) and sophomore Brynn Steven (Wichita, Kan. / Bishop Carroll) blanked Sanchez/Liyanage 6-0 at No. 2 Doubles. At No. 3, sophomore Andrea Delgado (Richmond, Texas / Foster [Dallas Baptist]) and senior Madi Rogers (Clearwater, Fla. / Florida Virtual [Bradley]) dropped just one game in a 6-1 victory over Hughes/Morrille.
- The Cougars took the No. 1 Doubles match on a tiebreak 7-6(5), but the doubles point already belonged to the Beacons.
- Junior Jolene Fernandes (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) dispatched Morille while dropping only one game at No. 6, winning the match 6-0, 6-1.
- The No. 5 Singles match was second to finish, extending Valpo's lead in the team match to 3-0 when Delgado prevailed 6-1, 6-3 over Hughes.
- The Beacons clinched the team win thanks to sophomore Lacey Tanner (Fort Pierce, Fla. / Florida Virtual School), who finished off a 6-1, 6-2 sweep of King at No. 3. Valpo built the lead to 5-0 when Steven finalized her 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Liyanage at No. 4.
- Chicago State won two close sets at No. 2 Singles and won the top singles match, which Valpo was leading 6-3, 6-5 prior to a retirement due to injury.
Inside the Match
- This is Valpo's longest winning streak since also recording five straight wins in 2023.
- With 10 wins on the season, the Beacons are already one win away from tying for the program's highest total since 2007.
- Silva secured her 54th career doubles win, tied for the fourth most in program history. She moved into a tie with Whitney Chada (2003-2007) with her win on Saturday.
- Delgado's singles win extended her winning streak to seven and she improved to 11-1 in dual matches and 13-4 overall this season. She moved into a tie for the team lead in singles wins with her triumph on Saturday.

The Beacons (10-3) will open Missouri Valley Conference play on Saturday, March 28 by hosting Illinois State at 2 p.m. The match will take place either outdoors at the Valpo Tennis Complex or indoors at The Courts of Northwest Indiana.
