2025-26: Outdoor All-MVC First Team honoree… Won the javelin at Indiana’s State Pacesetter Invite, the Tennessee Invite, the University of Illinois’ Gary Wieneke Memorial and the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships… Became the first Valpo athlete to win an outdoor MVC title since joining the league and the second overall to win an MVC title and first since Alexander Bruno in the indoor mile in 2020… Scored 10 points for the Beacons at the MVC Outdoor Championship… His PR of 63.59m (208-7) occurred on May 1 at the Gary Wieneke Memorial. That mark ranks second in program history and was the program’s best since 2015.

2024-45 (Track & Field): Started the season with the fourth-best indoor heptathlon in program history at the John Coughlan Invite on Dec. 6-7… Posted the second-best outdoor javelin throw in program history and the third-best outdoor decathlon in program history at the MVC Track and Field Championships on May 17-18… Was named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team and College Sports Academic All-District… Earned MVC Honor Roll, Commissioner’s Academic Excellence Award and Presidential Academic Honors Award.

2024 (Track & Field): Had the fifth-best decathlon score in program history at 5,646 at the MVC Outdoor Championships... Earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors... Had a PR in the heptathlon at the MVC Indoor Championships at 3,855... PR’d in the long jump at 5.74m (18-10) at the SIU Bill Cornell Invite on April 5-6... Had a PR in the javelin at 54.14m (177-7) at the MVC Outdoor Championships... Earned Valparaiso University Presidential Academic Honors.

2023 (Cross Country): Did not see meet action.

2023 (Track & Field): Turned in a time of 4:42.46 in the indoor mile at the Blue & Gold Invitational.

2022 (Cross Country): Finished the 6K in 21:51.8 in his collegiate debut at the Valparaiso Winrow Open on Sept. 2... Had an 8K time of 32:40.03 on Sept. 16 at the Spartan Invite... Achieved a five-mile time of 29:35.2 at the Joe Piane – Notre Dame Invitational on Sept. 30... Finished the 8K in 28:05.5 at the Bradley Pink Classic on Oct. 14.

Prep: Part of the 2022 Division 1 4x800 meter state championship team as the leadoff leg of the relay... All-conference in the 4x800 and the 800 as a senior... Graduated at the top of his high school class with summa cum laude.

Personal: Majoring in mechanical engineering... Son of Daniel and Christine Sponaugle... Has two sisters, Rebecca and Amanda... Enjoys fishing and being outdoors exploring nature.
