Ray Knight

Ray Knight, LAT, ATC

Ray Knight joined Valpo Athletics in March 2025 as Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine / Head Athletic Trainer. He leads the department's athletic training staff, serves as a healthcare administrator for the department, works as a liaison with medical doctors and oversees all aspects of the Valpo sports medicine operation to ensure student-athlete health and safety. Knight arrived at Valpo after previously serving as the head athletic trainer at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio since July 2024.
 
A veteran of over a quarter of a century in the athletic training realm, Knight led the sports medicine unit at Sewanee: The University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. from August 2001 to June 2024, serving as head athletic trainer before being promoted to Director of Sports Medicine in July 2022.
  
A 1998 graduate of East Tennessee State University with a degree in physical education, Knight went on to earn his master's in athletic training from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in May 2000. Early in his career, he gained experience as a student athletic trainer at East Tennessee State and as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Chattanooga while also working as an Atlanta Braves summer intern and Atlanta Hawks training camp site coordinator. He later added to his professional sports experience by working Tennessee Titans training camp in summer 2013.
 
A member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, Knight holds numerous certifications and memberships. In 2008, he was honored as the TATS Eugene Smith/Mickey O'Brien College Athletic Trainer of the Year Award recipient.
