Beacons Earn Three Wins on Second Day in Las Vegas

The #19 Valpo bowling team posted a winning record for the second straight day as the Stormin’ Blue & White Vegas Classic continued Tuesday, finishing the day with a 3-1 mark.

How It Happened

  • Valpo opened the day, contested in the traditional team format, against Adelphi and earned an 832-753 win to kick things off, led by a 189 game from junior Alli Eible (Burton, Mich./Kearsley).
  • The Beacons made it back-to-back wins with their best team score of the day in the second match slot, taking down #20 Oklahoma Christian by a 972-922 final. Freshman Mia Kottke (Niles, Ill./Resurrection) led the way with a 209, while junior Lilu Smith (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln) was right behind Kottke with a 208.
  • Eible paced Valpo for the second time Tuesday in the third match slot, rolling a 191 as the Beacons suffered a 1051-875 defeat against #8 Duquesne.
  • The Beacons had a bye in the fourth match slot, posting a team score of 840 — led by a 195 from freshman Maia Struble (Anchorage, Alaska/Dimond).
  • Valpo closed the day with a 949-921 win over host #15 Mount St. Mary’s. Sophomore Jen Patz (Naples, Fla./Naples) rolled the Beacons’ top individual game of the day, recording a 246 in the finale.
  • The Beacons finished up the second day of competition in 14th place out of the 19 competing teams with a total pinfall of 8,890 pins.
  • With Tuesday’s results, Valpo improved to 9-4 on the season against teams ranked #11 through #20 in the NTCA poll, as well as 17-4 against teams #21 through #25, receiving votes or unranked.
