Valparaiso University Director of Athletics Mark LaBarbera announced today that Traci Young has been promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics for Life Skills Programs and will also serve as the athletic department’s Senior Woman Administrator.
In a contest that was decided by the final match of the day, Valparaiso dropped a 4-3 Horizon League match to Youngstown State on Saturday afternoon at the Northwest Athletic Club in Michigan City, Ind.
Brittany O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest H.S.) won her singles match at number six while Stephanie York (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown H.S.) and Kaitlyn Hamel (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain H.S.) posted a win at number two doubles on Sunday afternoon, but Valparaiso ended up on the short end of a 6-1 match against the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay at Western Racquet and Fitness Club in Green Bay, Wis.
Valparaiso’s women’s tennis team opened their spring break trip to California on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Biola 6-3 at the Biola Tennis Center in LaMirada, Calif. to return to the .500 mark on the season.
Valparaiso’s women’s team moved back to the .500 mark on the season after surrendering just six games total on Saturday morning in a 7-0 shutout victory over Western Illinois at the Homewood-Flossmoor Racquet Club in Flossmoor, Ill.

Valparaiso’s women’s tennis team opened the 2012 spring season on Friday splitting a pair of matches at the Pine Ridge Racquet and Fitness Club in Fort Wayne, Ind. The Crusaders bounced back from a 7-0 loss during the afternoon against IPFW to defeat Wittenberg 6-1 in the evening contest.
Valparaiso added another singles and doubles victory to its resume on Saturday afternoon as the Crusaders closed play at the Ball State Fall Invitational held at the Cardinal Creek Courts in Muncie, Ind.
