The #19 Valpo bowling team completed its season-opening tournament at the Penguin Classic in Struthers, Ohio, finishing in eighth place in the 16-team field.

How It Happened
- Competing in bracket play in the best-of-seven baker format, Valpo opened the day against #2 Arkansas State. The Beacons were edged by two pins in the opening game despite rolling a 202, and also dropped a narrow four-pin decision in game three as the Red Wolves earned the 4-0 win.
- The loss dropped Valpo into a matchup with #21 McKendree. The two squads split the first four games, with the Beacons using a 227 in game four to even the match at 2-2. Valpo pulled ahead with a 204 in game five, but McKendree took each of the last two contests to rally for the 4-3 win.
- The Beacons concluded the tournament with a matchup against Wright State and got out to a strong start, rolling their best game of the day with a 246 in the opener. Valpo posted a 202 in game three as well as the teams split the first four games. The Raiders earned the game five win before the Beacons extended the match with a 194 in game six, but WSU took game seven to close out the 4-3 decision.
