Bowling Season Comes to End at CUSA Championship

The #24 Valpo bowling team saw its 2024-25 campaign come to an end Thursday afternoon as the Beacons fell to #5 Wichita State in action at the CUSA Championship in Harahan, La.

How It Happened
  • The mega match began with a traditional team game. Despite a game of 226 from Alexis Wooley (Fort White, Fla./Fort White), the second-best effort of her collegiate career, the Beacons fell to the Shockers, 1044-884.
  • The five-game baker half of the mega match wasn't any kinder to Valpo, as Wichita State led by 18 pins after game one and pulled away to a 1001-801 win to close the match.

Inside the Season
  • Valpo concludes the 2024-25 campaign with a 43-44 overall record. The Beacons posted the second-best single-season team scoring average in program history in both traditional action (189.8) and baker action (188.5).
  • Four bowlers finished with averages of 190 or better in traditional matches, led by Lilu Smith (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln), whose 199.0 average this season ranks third in a single-season in program history.
  • Payton Rowley (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) cracked the program single-season top-10 chart as well with her 194.8 average. Maia Struble (Anchorage, Alaska/Dimond) finished with a 191.1 average this year, while Wooley rounded out the quartet above 190 with a 190.8.

Inside the Careers
  • Two seniors have completed their final season of collegiate bowling for the Beacons.
  • Smith started 138 traditional team matches over her four-year career, posting a 192.2 scoring average — second-best in program history behind only Valpo Athletics Hall of Fame member Natalie Cortese.
  • Alli Eible (Burton, Mich./Kearsley) started 88 traditional team matches in her four seasons, finishing with a 181.2 scoring average.
