Joseph Scheele (Mahomet, Ill. / Mahomet-Seymour) established a program record for the second time in as many races, leading the Valparaiso University cross country team at Friday's NCAA Regional, hosted by Akron in Norton, Ohio.
Â
How It Happened
- Scheele finished the 10K in 30:53.8, outdoing Evan Walda's 10K record of 31:13.1 set at last year's NCAA Regional. Scheele established program standards in back-to-back races after doing the same in the 8K at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship.
- Sophomore Karson Hollander (Crystal Lake, Ill. / Crystal Lake) was second on the team at 31:47.0, a time that ranks fifth in program history. He was followed by freshman Tyler Swartz (Warsaw, Ind. / Warsaw Community) at 33:07.8.
- Redshirt freshman Laetitia Raoult (Giungamp, France) moved from third to second in program history in the 6K by leading the team with a time of 20:59.6. This marked the fastest 6K by a Valpo woman since Laura Rolf set the program record of 20:45.35 on Oct. 28, 2006 at the Mid-Continent Conference Championship. Raoult outdid her previous PR of 21:31.3 that came on Sept. 27 at the Gans Creek Classic.
- Sophomore Vivian Rahmel (Springfield, Ill. / Sacred Heart-Griffin) was second on the team at 22:10.1, followed by freshman Kensington Black (Franklin, Ohio / Franklin) at 22:12.7. Black's time bettered her PR from the MVC Championship and helped her jump two spots to seventh in program history.
- The Valpo men finished ahead of Wright State, Evansville, Milwaukee, Bowling Green and Marquette.
