Geiger, Nank Join Valpo Football Coaching Staff

Pete Nank WelcomeValparaiso University head football coach Andy Waddle has announced a pair of additions to his coaching staff as Terry Geiger has been named the program's wide receivers coach, while Peter Nank has been tabbed the squad's offensive line coach.

Geiger spent the last three seasons on staff at Marietta College, where he was the wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator under Waddle and Valpo offensive coordinator Reed Florence. He coached the first 1,000-yard receiver in program history and the player who broke the program's single-season and career receiving records. During the 2024 season, he instructed All-Ohio Athletic Conference First Team honoree Dawson Snyder and All-OAC second team choice Jay Melchiori, both of whom ranked in the top five in the league in receiving yards. Snyder's 11 receiving touchdowns ranked second in the OAC.

"I chose to come to Valpo because I wanted to join such a prestigious program that will help me become a better coach and person," Geiger said. "I chose to stay with Coach Waddle because I trust him and I think he has helped shape me into a better man and coach over my three years with him."

During the 2023 season, Geiger mentored a group that totaled 149 receptions for 1,974 yards and 20 touchdowns while producing a pair of all-conference honorees. In his first season on staff in 2022, Geiger helped Snyder become Marietta's first all-conference receiver since 2016 by ranking fifth in the OAC with 689 receiving yards. His group totaled 97 receptions for 1,525 yards and 11 scores that season.

"Terry did a great job with our wide receivers at Marietta, and he's also an awesome recruiter," Waddle said. "He has great relationships with the players, recruits and their families and understands the type of person that we're going to want to bring to Valpo."

While at Marietta, Geiger and Nank contributed to the Pioneers offense breaking the following program records in 2024 – points (433), points per game (43.3), offensive touchdowns (58), passing touchdowns (29), first downs (236), passing first downs (123), offensive yards (4,612) and yards per game (461.2). During the 2024 season, Marietta ranked among conference and national leaders in the following offensive categories – first-down offense (second OAC, 21st nationally), passing offense (second OAC, 32nd nationally), red-zone offense (second OAC, eighth nationally), scoring offense (second OAC, 21st nationally), total offense (second OAC, 19th nationally) and more.

During Geiger's three years at Marietta, the Pioneers enjoyed a 22-8 overall record and 19-8 conference mark.

Prior to joining the Pioneers staff before the 2022 season, Geiger served as the wide receivers coach at Otterbein University in 2021. He got his coaching start in 2020 as a student recruiting assistant at Defiance College, where he was a two-time all-conference performer, a team captain and a member of Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as a student-athlete. He began his collegiate playing career at Muskingum, where he was the team's Offensive Player of the Year in 2018. A native of Columbus, Ohio, Geiger graduated from Defiance with a bachelor's degree in sports management in 2021 and earned his master's in business administration (MBA) from Otterbein in 2022.

Nank spent the last two seasons as the offensive line coach at Marietta, where he instructed three all-conference performers in 2024 and two in 2023. During his time on staff, the Pioneers went 16-5.

"Coach Waddle is a CULTURE builder, his teams love football, love and care for each other, and play for each other," Nank said. "I chose to come here with Coach Waddle because Valpo is in a prime position to take a huge step as a program."

Prior to arriving at Marietta, Nank served as a graduate assistant offensive line coach at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 2022. He spent time as a graduate assistant offensive line coach at Benedictine College during the summer of 2022, and was a member of the Miami football program as a student-athlete from 2017 to 2021.

"Pete played Division-I football, was a GA in Division-I football, and came to us a few years ago at Marietta and did a great job with the offensive line," Waddle said. "He's got a lot of respect from the players in that room. I think he has an extremely bright future in the coaching profession, and I'm excited to have him here at Valpo."

Nank was part of the 2019 Miami team that won the Mid-American Conference championship and participated in the LendingTree Bowl. A four-time Iowa High School football state champion whose high school team posted a 52-2 record during his career, Nank was also part of the Miami team that won the 2021 Frisco Football Classic Bowl.
