One day into the Miami Invitational and already one school record set, as the Valpo swimming men shattered the program record in the 800 free relay to kick off the Beacons' major midseason meet.
How It Happened
- The opening day of competition featured just the 800 free relay, but it only took that one event for the men to set the first program record of the meet. Evan Curran (Golden, Colo./Golden), Gabriel Corkran (Avondale Estates, Ga./Druid Hills), Nate Bolinger (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) and Anthony Martin (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) combined to touch the wall in 6:42.33, over eight seconds faster than the previous program record in the event.
- To put that into perspective, the time gap between first and second on the Beacons' all-time chart in the event now is greater than the gap between second and 10th.
- Curran swam an opening 200 leg of 1:39.12, lowering his second-fastest time in school history in the 200 free by over a second and a half.
- On the women's side, the quartet of Una Dizdarevic (Bloomingdale, Ill./Lake Park), Audrey Morgan (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook), Ally Unruh (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap) and Caroline Gorski (Melrose Park, Ill./Leyden) posted a time of 7:44.10 in the 800 free relay to move into second place on the Beacons' all-time chart.
- After the opening day of the meet, the Valpo men are in fourth place and the women sit in a tie for fifth place.
