Bowling Posts Strong Second Day at Saints Invitational

Three members of the Valpo bowling team rolled collegiate career highs on Saturday as the Beacons posted another winning day on the second day of competition at the Saints Invitational in St. Louis.
 
How It Happened
  • Valpo opened the day with a 1047-982 victory over Oklahoma Christian, led by a season-best game of 244 from Payton Rowley (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville). Jen Patz (Naples, Fla./Naples) also posted a season-best score of 233, while Alexis Wooley (Fort White, Fla./Fort White) chipped in a 215 game as well.
  • Despite a collegiate career high of 226 from Peytin Brake (Kent City, Mich./Kent City), the Beacons fell 1024-941 to #RV Central Missouri in the second match slot.
  • Valpo rebounded with a 958-904 win over Lewis in its next match. Wooley paced the Beacons with a 215 in that victory, Rowley recorded a 211 and Maia Struble (Anchorage, Alaska/Dimond) added a 201.
  • The Beacons followed that up with a 1077-997 victory over #15 Tulane, as all five Valpo bowlers broke the 200 barrier. Wooley and Mia Kottke (Niles, Ill./Resurrection) posted collegiate career-best games of 233 and 211, respectively. Rowley rolled a 225, Patz a 205 and Struble a 203.
  • The 1077 marked the seventh-best traditional team match in program history.
  • Valpo dropped a 1178-994 match to #12 Louisiana Tech to close the day despite games of 226 from Rowley and 213 from Struble.
  • Rowley just missed cracking the top-10 in the individual standings, placing 11th with a team-high average of 219.6 over Valpo's five matches Saturday.
  • The Beacons closed the day in ninth place in the team standings, with 10,090 total pins through the first two days of competition.
