The #25 Valpo bowling team posted a 3-1 record on the second day of competition at the Big Red Invitational Saturday in Lincoln, Neb., with both Lilu Smith (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln) and Payton Rowley (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) posting averages above 200 for the day.
 
How It Happened

• Valpo opened the day, which was contested in the traditional team format, by taking on #RV Central Missouri. The Beacons dropped the opener, 942-888, as Rowley was their leading scorer with a 192 game.
• Valpo rebounded with a 927-656 win over Quincy in the second match slot. Rowley led the way in the victory with a 221, while Smith posted a 202.
• The Beacons made it back-to-back wins with a 905-822 victory over Elmhurst in their next match. Rowley paced Valpo for a third straight match with a 211 effort.
• Valpo closed out the day with its strongest team score, taking down #13 McKendree by a 967-929 final. Smith recorded the team's top individual game of the year in that triumph with a 246.
• Smith had the team's top average on Saturday, registering a 207.0 average over the four matches, while Rowley finished with a 201.0 average.
• Valpo finished the second day of competition in fifth place out of eight teams, having accumulated 4,939 pins.
