Juliana Ferrara (Fox River Grove, Ill. / Cary-Grove) set personal bests with program all-time top-5 times in a pair of events as the Valparaiso University track & field team competed at Notre Dame's Alex Wilson Invite on Saturday as a final tune-up prior to the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships.
How It Happened
- Ferrara established her personal record in both the 200 and 400 on Saturday and ranks third in program history in both events. She posted a time of 25.7 seconds in the 200 to place third of seven and was sixth of 16 at 58.19 in the 400.
- In the women's throws, junior Amelia Tandy (New Albany, Ind. / New Albany) was the top performer in both the shot and the weight. Her shot put of 12.34 meters placed fifth in the event and was a personal best, while she was the runner-up in the weight throw at 15.08m.
- In the 60-meter races, junior Tim Whitelaw (Park Ridge, Ill. / Maine South), sophomore Taylor Pusateri (Portage, Ind. / Genoa-Kingston) and senior Marion Isaac (Evergreen Park, Ill. / Evergreen Park) all advanced beyond the preliminary races and into the finals. Pusateri led the women at 9.14 to place fourth and Whitelaw was seventh on the men's side at 7.13.
- Junior Gavin Schaefer (Lake Saint Louis, Mo. / Timberland) won the triple jump at 12.35m. Junior Katie Koryczan (Crown Point, Ind. / Crown Point) was the long jump runner-up at 4.81m, while freshman Colin Maxwell (Jacksonville, Fla. / Wolfson) was the runner-up on the men's side in that event with a PR of 5.94m (19-5.75).
- Other PRs on Saturday included senior Reid Davis (Nashville, Ind. / Brown County) at 14.91m (48-11) in the weight, senior Talia Morgan (Muncie, Ind. / Yorktown) in the 400 at 1:03.49, junior Alex Valerio (Rockford, Ill. / Boylan Catholic) in the 3000 at 8:43.46 and freshman Kensington Black (Franklin, Ohio / Franklin Senior) in the mile at 5:10.86.
