The #25 Valpo bowling team posted a winning record on the second day of competition Saturday at the Flyer Classic in Lockport, Ill., tallying a trio of victories.
 
How It Happened

• Valpo opened the day, contested in the traditional team format, against Carroll and rolled to a 974-849 victory in the opener. Maia Struble (Anchorage, Alaska/Dimond) led the way in the win with a 232, while Lilu Smith (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln) backed her up with a 202.
• Smith posted a 236 game in the second match slot and Jen Patz (Naples, Fla./Naples) rolled a 221, but it wouldn't be enough in a 947-893 loss to Oklahoma Christian.
• Alli Eible (Burton, Mich./Kearsley) rolled a season-best game of 243 in the third match slot — the Beacons' top individual effort of the day — and Struble recorded a 227 as Valpo took down UIndy, 902-712.
• Smith recorded a team-best 238 in the fourth match of the day and Payton Rowley (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) rolled a 223 in a 993-905 victory over #19 Wright State.
• Despite a trio of bowlers breaking 200 in the finale, the Beacons were unable to end the day on a winning note, falling 1101-991 to #3 Jacksonville State. Struble led the way in that contest with a 224, Patz registered a 217 and Smith rolled a 204.
• Smith finished the day with the Beacons' top average, a 208.0 over the day's five matches. Struble was right behind her with a 207.6 average.
• Valpo finished the day in 13^th place in the team standings out of 22 competing teams, moving up one spot from its placement on Friday. The Beacons have totaled 9,520 pins through the first two days of action.
