Women’s Swimming Closes MVC Championships Saturday

Nine total swims which were among the best in program history highlighted the Saturday program for the Valpo women's swimming team as the Beacons closed out the 2025 MVC Championships in Waukee, Iowa. Valpo finished the championship meet with its highest point total since joining the Valley.

How It Happened
  • Ally Unruh (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap) placed 19th in the 1650 free with a time of 17:47.04, moving her into second in program history in the event — Valpo's fastest swim since 2013.
  • Sophie Schoch (Medina, Ohio/Medina) qualified for the 'C' final in the 200 back with a prelim time of 2:05.99, taking over a second and a half off her event PR with the second-fastest time in program history, just seven-hundredths off the school record. Schoch went on to finish in 22nd place in the evening final with a time of 2:06.39.
  • Sara Strauss (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) lowered her PR in the 200 breast twice on Saturday, both times bettering her time which ranks third in program history. Strauss completed the prelim in 2:24.22 to qualify for the 'C' final and then touched the wall in 2:24.00 in the final, good for 22nd place.
  • Olivia Tressler (Las Vegas, Nev./Desert Oasis) joined Schoch in posting a top-10 time in the prelims of the 200 back, covering the distance in 2:09.11 to knock over two seconds off her PR and move into seventh in program history.
  • Courtney Ledbetter (Wentzville, Mo./Timberland) led the Valpo contingent in the prelims of the 100 free with a time of 53.26, moving her up to seventh in program history in the event, while Kailyn Benoit (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) paced the Beacons in the 200 fly prelims with a time of 2:14.07.
  • Bri Keese (Brighton, Colo./Brighton) jumped three spots on Valpo's 50 free chart Saturday with a time trial swim of 24.46, moving her up to seventh position.
  • Keese, Haley Hume (Ballwin, Mo./Marquette), Strauss and Ledbetter drew the nod to close the meet as Valpo's entry in the 400 free relay. The quartet covered the distance in 3:34.76, fourth-fastest in program history, while Keese's leadoff 100 of 53.68 moved her into 10th place in program history in the 100 free.
  • Valpo tallied 226.5 points over the course of the four-day meet, the program's best mark since joining the Valley — outdoing last year's team total of 206 points. The Beacons outpaced Evansville on swimming points.
