The Valparaiso University track & field team competed in the first of two days at the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships on Sunday as the Beacons are co-hosting the event alongside UIC at Gately Park in Chicago. Junior
Micah Mullings (Minesing, Ontario, Canada / Barrie North) placed fourth in the long jump and scored five points for his team.
How It Happened
- Mullings finished fourth of 17, narrowly missing the podium in the long jump. He notched a mark of 7.24 meters (23-9) to score five points for the Valpo men.
- Sophomore Tim Jochum (Glen Ellyn, Ill. / Glenbard South) finished 11th of 18 in the men's mile prelim, owning the top time among non-qualifiers as the top 10 moved on to the final. His personal-record time of 4:13.84 moved him into fifth in program history in that event.
- Sophomore Taylor Pusateri (Portage, Ind. / Genoa-Kingston) matched her PR of 7.95 seconds in the 60, an event in which she ranks fourth in program history.
- Sixth-year Reilly Ritter (Tabernacle, N.J. / Seneca [Florida Gulf Coast]) had a PR of 2:21.06 to lead Valpo in the women's 800, finishing 16th of 20 in the prelims.
- Another personal best was notched by freshman Kensington Black (Franklin, Ohio / Franklin Senior), who stopped the clock in 17:49.05 in the 5000.
- On the men's side in the 5000, sophomore Karson Hollander (Crystal Lake, Ill. / Crystal Lake) led the team by finishing 13th of 21 at 14:44.34.
- Junior Anthony Vassolo (Tinley Park, Ill. / Andrew) raced to a pair of season-best times, finishing the 200 prelims in 22.53 seconds and the 400 in 50.88 seconds.
