Delisanti Continues NCAA Regional on Tuesday

Valparaiso University men's golf senior Anthony Delisanti (Sanborn, N.Y. / Niagara Wheatfield) continued his third career NCAA Regional appearance on Tuesday, golfing the second round of the three-day, 54-hole Urbana Regional, hosted by the University of Illinois at the par-71, 7533-yard Atkins Golf Club in Urbana, Ill.

Delisanti shot a 72 (+1) in Round 2, bringing his 36-hole total to 149 (+7) with 18 holes to play. He bogeyed two of the first four holes for the second straight day on Tuesday, but heated up as the round moved along. He hit par on four of the final five holes on the front nine, but did bogey the par-4 eighth to make the turn at three over. He played with Wright State's Timmy Hollenbeck and Dayton's Ben Cors on Tuesday.

"The Atkins Golf Course continues to be a great site for the NCAA Midwest Regional and a terrific test for each one of the players," head coach Dave Gring said. "The conditions were ideal today, so weather was not an issue. Anthony had a second day of struggles off the tee, missing seven out of 14 fairways in regulation. Those missed fairways led to three bogeys on Holes 2, 8 and 18. He missed all three of the Par-5 fairways to the right. While he made par on all three of those holes, he wasn't able to take advantage of the birdie opportunities."

Delisanti's best nine of the tournament so far was the back nine on Tuesday. He dropped in birdies on the par-4 10th, 14th and 16th holes and was three under for the back nine going into the 18th hole, but he closed the day with a bogey to finish the back nine with a 33 (-2) and the round with a 72, a four-stroke improvement from Monday's performance.

"Anthony hit three greens in regulation on the front nine, but bounced back and he hit seven greens in regulation on the back nine. He finally got some good momentum going on the back nine, hitting wedges to 1' on #10, 12' on #14 and a 9-iron to 4' on #16 – all of those made putts for birdie. While he was only 1 for 7 in putts inside of 12' on the front nine, Anthony had 28 putts for the second straight round and he hasn't had a 3-putt the entire tournament. We will need some better accuracy off the tee and more putts made inside of 10' for a solid final round tomorrow."

Delisanti climbed five spots on the player leaderboard on Tuesday, finishing the day at t-52 of 71. Missouri Valley Conference team representative Illinois State finished the day tied for eighth of 13.

The Valpo senior will golf his final collegiate round on Wednesday, playing with Nick Mathews of North Carolina State and Patton Samuels of Austin Peay with the tee time off Hole 1 set for 10:12 a.m. A link to live scoring via Clippd can be found on ValpoAthletics.com.
