Valparaiso University tennis sophomore
Jolene Fernandes (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) was recognized with College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors on Tuesday.

She was also named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Second Team this season.

Fernandes, who owns a 3.85 cumulative grade point average in nursing, started the season on a seven-match winning streak in singles and totaled 11 singles wins and nine doubles wins this year. She won each of her first four and six of her first seven doubles matches alongside teammate
Brynn Steven.

Fernandes moved up to the No. 2 Singles spot and No. 1 Doubles spot in the lineup during the spring. She earned a 6-1 win over an Illinois State tandem at No. 1 Doubles on April 11 alongside teammate
Moira Silva. Last year as a freshman, Fernandes picked up 15 singles wins and 12 doubles wins.

To qualify for CSC Academic All-District consideration, student-athletes must own at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, have reached sophomore academic and athletic status and must have participated in 75 percent of the team's regular-season matches.
