Soccer Falls at Southern Indiana Thursday

The Valpo soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision at Southern Indiana Thursday night as the Beacons began a stretch of three consecutive road matches.
 
How It Happened
  • The hosts gained an early lead as Emerson Grafton hit the back of the net in the eighth minute.
  • USI carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime.
  • The Screaming Eagles doubled their lead less than a minute out of the break, with Grafton netting her second goal of the match.
 
Inside the Match
  • After scoring at least one goal in each of their first five matches of the season, the Beacons were held scoreless for the first time Thursday.
  • USI held an 11-8 edge in shots and put five on goal to Valpo's two. Kate Sheridan (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) made three saves for the Beacons.
  • Valpo was unable to score despite earning eight corner kick opportunities, holding a slight 8-7 edge in that department.
