Redshirt junior
Laetitia Raoult (Guingamp, France [Florida International]) established a personal record and led the Valparaiso University women's cross country team in the 6k at Friday's Missouri Valley Conference Championships, hosted by Drake at A.H. Blank Golf Course in Des Moines, Iowa. In the men's 8k, sophomore
Joey Yaros (Bloomington, Ill. / Normal Community) once again turned in the team's top time.
Â
How It Happened
- Raoult missed a top-20 finish by one runner, placing 21st of 94 with a personal-best time of 20:58.2. She improved upon her time that already ranked third in program history.
- Sophomore Samantha Rowley (Barrington, Ill. / Barrington) was the next Valpo runner to cross the line, as her time of 21:35.4 put her in the top half of the field at 39th.
- Redshirt senior Alina Worzella (Martinsville, Ind. / Martinsville) was third on the team with a time of 22:12.7.
- Like Raoult in the women's race, Yaros narrowly missed a top-20 finish. He finished 22nd of 90 with a time of 24:31.8.
- Freshman Matthew Russell (St. Charles, Ill. / St. Charles North) stopped the clock in 25:18.1 to place 51st, and was followed immediately by junior Tyler Swartz (Warsaw, Ind. / Warsaw Community), who finished in 25:18.6.
- Both Valpo teams placed ninth of 11, with the Beacon women beating Southern Illinois and Evansville and the men outdoing Evansville and Murray State. Bradley swept the team titles for the men and women.
