The Valparaiso University men's golf team played the third and final round of the three-day, 54-hole Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, hosted by Wyoming at the par-72, 7305-yard Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif., on Wednesday. Junior Adam Melliere (Zionsville, Ind. / Zionsville) golfed a team-best score in the final round.
 
How It Happened

• Melliere carded a 75 in Round 3, finishing the tournament in 83^rd of 124 at 224. He was a stroke under par during his final seven holes of the event.
• Redshirt junior Ryan Somerville (Aurora, Ontario / Aurora) had the team's second-best Round-3 score at 76, finishing at t-85 with a 54-hole score of 226.
• Junior Elliot Lee (Tillamook, Ore. / Tillamook) stroked a 78, finishing the tournament with a 227, tied for 88^th.
• The Beacons had an identical team score as Round 2, finishing the third round at 309. They were 22^nd of 23 as a team at 912, with Colorado winning the event at 830 and Maryland's Emil Riegger taking medalist honors at -10.

Thoughts from Head Coach Dave Gring
"This has certainly been a character-building season for us. We have had our challenges with injuries, sickness and a full rotating lineup. Those are certainly not excuses, and we need to get back to playing with more mental strength, determination and shot execution. The guys have been practicing well this winter, but we have not been able to get any type of rhythm in our tourney rounds or consistency in our shot making."
 
"We will get right back to practice this week and good preparation for our next tournament. While I feel at times the guys are putting a lot of pressure on themselves to score well, we need to keep improving every day and making sure that everything we do is simply leading to progress towards our goals and success in the pursuit of achieving them."
