The calendar said March, but the weather was as pleasant as a mid-summer day on Monday afternoon as the Valparaiso University baseball team fell 10-1 to Indiana State in the rubber match of a three-game, Missouri Valley Conference series. The weather marked quite the contrast from Friday, when this game was originally scheduled but was postponed due to frigid temperatures.
 
How It Happened

• A two-out RBI double for Indiana State in the top of the second started the game's scoring. That represented the first of three straight innings where the Sycamores notched single tallies, as they did so with another two-out hit in the third before a solo homer in the fourth.
• Redshirt senior Dalton Swinehart (Elkhart, Ind. / Concord) fired a 1-2-3 fifth, before a sac fly in the sixth gave Indiana State its fourth different inning with precisely one run.
• Valpo pitching held Indiana State off the scoreboard in the seventh and eighth innings, but the Sycamores posted their first crooked number of the day in the top of the ninth, pulling away with six runs. A three-run homer by Colin Sander was the final blow of a marathon frame.
• With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, redshirt senior George Betevis (Hanover Park, Ill. / Bartlett) got the Beacons on the board by floating a single to right that fell in.
