The Valparaiso University men's golf team played the final two holes of the second round and rolled into the third round on Tuesday's final day of the Bluegrass Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Kentucky at the par-71, 7013-yard University Club of Kentucky in Lexington.
How It Happened
- Sophomore Rob Politza (Lemont, Ill. / Lemont Township) posted the team's top score in the final round with a 4-over 75, his best round of the tournament. He led the team for the event with a 228 and finished tied for 40th of 92.
- In the second round, which concluded on Tuesday since the teams ran out of daylight on Monday after a weather delay, Elliot Lee (Tillamook, Ore. / Tillamook) led the squad with a 74 (+3).
- Valpo's second-best 54-hole tournament score came from junior Adam Melliere (Zionsville, Ind. / Zionsville), who finished at 234 for the event.
- The Beacons played shorthanded on Tuesday as their top golfer in terms of season scoring average had to withdraw from the tournament due to illness, so they used a four-man lineup and had to count all four scores on the event's final day.
- Valpo tied for 16th at 927, while host Kentucky won the event. Vinny Cervantes (Marquette) and Cole Stockard (Kentucky) were co-medalists at 213 (E).
